Bloodborne Pathogens
American Heart Association Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) class is designed
specifically for the workplace/health and safety market who must
be trained annually in bloodborne pathogens. It is targeted toward
settings such as industry, Fortune 1500 companies, occupational
health, property management, hospitality, security, and health and
fitness staff.
The American Heart Association Heartsaver BBP Course teaches employees
how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood
or blood-containing materials. This course covers the general information
portion of the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 1910.1030 for training
of anyone with occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. This
course does not cover site-specific information. Per the BBP Standard
1910.1030: Employers shall ensure that all employees with
occupational exposure participate in a training program which must
be provided at no cost to the employee and during working hours.

- How to Protect yourself from exposure to bloodborne pathogens
- How to act appropriately when a bloodborne pathogens exposure
occurs
- How to clean up after a bloodborne pathogens exposure
- How to properly report any bloodborne pathogens exposures
Content
of the Heartsaver BBP Course is based on the acronym PACT, which
stands for:
P Protect: protect against exposure to bloodborne
pathogens
A Act: act quickly & safely if an exposure incident occurs
C Clean: clean themselves and the area should an exposure
incident occur
T Tell: report exposure to blood or blood-containing materials
